Screaming for Joy!

The Scream

Edvard Munch’s paintings The Scream and Madonna, which were pulled from the Munch Museum’s gallery walls in August of 2004, have been recovered. No new arrests were made, and the case remains open. Six men were charged earlier this year in the theft. The combined insured value of the paintings had been put at $121 million. "We know that both pictures have been handled roughly and that ‘Madonna’ has received a scratch or gouge, but I have been informed that the damages are not irreparable,” said Erling Lae, the commissioner of Oslo’s city government. “The experience of seeing these works of art will be as great as it was before. What an incredible joy and relief.”
